According to Senior Vice President-Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter , more scooters are sold in State of Uttarakhand than rest of the country and it is a clear indicator that the State is on a path of development,
He said “Today 44 percent of two-wheelers sold in Uttarakhand are scooters which is much more than all India average of 34 percent. With better road infrastructure, women in workforce, high convenience, advanced technology and unisex appeal, Uttarakhand is getting scooterised like never before. The senior officer of one of top brands of two wheeler in the country said that scooterisation indicates that an area is moving ahead in all growth parameters. He said that all the States which are leading in development indicators are the areas where more scooters are sold.
He accepted that the industry could witness cost escalation as it has to deal with challenges of installation anti braking system, multi point fuel injection and emission norms as the Bharat Stage VI guidelines. All the automobile manufacturers would have to bring changes in the production and assembly lines and have to invest on research and development to meet these challenges and all these could result in cost escalation. He added that in industry could witness pressure on sales in the year 2020 when the BS VI norms are implemented. jHe said that the India automobile sector was granted a time period of only three years for upgrading into BS VI emission norms while in European countries similar up-gradation took about ten years.
He claimed that HMSI has overwhelming 80 percent market share in the scooter segment and four out of every five scooter customers trusts only Honda. He said that the company plans new model launches and expansion of distribution network as companies’ new plans for the financial year 2017-18.
